We are a 27 acre boarding & training facility located along the Mojave River in Hesperia, Ca. Owned by Ben & Cheryl Padilla
We bought Hidden River Ranch in August 2007. The ranch was built in the early 1940's as a dude ranch by the Ackridge family and the original barn still remains. Their son Eddie Ackridge was a champion rodeo bronk rider in the 1950's and 60's and was inducted into the Rodeo Hall of Fame. The ranch was very popular and was visited by many movie stars. Over the years the original ranch was divided up with Hidden River being the largest Piece at 27 acres. The original lodge burnt down in the 1960's but the fireplace and chimney still remain. You can also see where the pool used to be. We are currently applying for a grant to rebuild the lodge and restore the grounds as a historic site.
Cheryl Padilla runs the daily operations of the ranch. Cheryl has about 35 years experience working with horses. She got her first horse at 13 and began taking English riding lessons with Carol Arminsky at Bradbury Hills Riding Club. She worked and rode there for many years before taking a job with Dressage Trainer 'Jane McCloud' at the Paddock Riding Club. 'Jane is a great trainer and teacher! I learned a lot from her!' from there Cheryl went to work at Santa Anita Race Track. 'I always wanted to be a Jockey but I was way to big' Cheryl was a licensed groom and pony rider at the track and also worked for the Equine Hospital at Santa Anita.
Cheryl is an avid thoroughbred lover. She has worked with many rescues to take care of and help place thoroughbred horses into good homes. Cheryl owns 2 thoroughbreds 'Sitting in the Sun' (Jack) & 'Irish Heat' (Fiona). She also has 2 pony's, 'Penny' & 'Cash'. She is also a foster mom to 'Adam' who belongs to 'The Exceller Fund'.
We are a family oriented facility with an emphasis on excellent horse care! We offer individual care at economic prices.
